Saradnici Lire su 2004. godine dobili multicentrični projekat „Psychobiology of PostTraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)“ u okviru FP-6 poziva za naučne projekte, koji je raspisala Evropska komisija.

Projekat je realizovan u naučno-istraživačkim, bolničkim i nevladinim centrima u Srbiji, Hrvatskoj, Holandiji, Italiji i Velikoj Britaniji (International Aid Network – IAN, Institute of Nuclear Sciences – Vinča, Institute of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolic Disease – Endocrinology, Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”- IBRSS, Military Medical Academy – MMA, all in Belgrade, Serbia, University Medical Center – UMC, Utrecht, Netherlands, Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London – QMW, London, United Kingdom, Psychiatric Clinic, Medical Faculty, University of Rijeka – MFR, Rijeka, Croatia, Specialization School of Psychiatry, University of Bari – DSNP, Bari, Italy) u periodu od 2004. do 2009. godine.

Cilj ovog projekta bio je razumevanje bioloških osnova psihofizičkih profila pacijenata sa posttraumatskim stresnim poremećajem (PTSP). Studija se bavila relacijama između simptoma PTSP-a (sa naglaskom na različite suptipove PTSP-a) i relevantnih psiholoških, biohemijskih, endokrinoloških, genetskih, fizioloških i antropometrijskih parametara. Studija je obuhvatala pet grupa subjekata: a) individue sa akutnim PTSP-om, b) individue sa PTSP-om u remisiji (lifetime PTSD), c) individue sa traumama povezanim sa ratom ali bez PTSP-a (trauma controls), d) zdrava kontrolna grupa sa područja Zapadnog Balkana, i e) zdrava kontrolna grupa iz Zapadne Evrope. Grupe a, b, c i d su regrutovane u Beogradu i Rijeci. Grupa e je regrutovana u Utrehtu i Bariju. Traumatska iskustva prve tri grupe bila su ratna iskustva. Precizni kriterijumi za uključivanje i isključivanje ispitanika iz studije bili su unapred specifikovani.
