An important line of research within LIRA is focused on investigating individual differences in the cognitive domain. Our research in this area has examined the validity of widely used tests and batteries for assessment of intellectual abilities (Lazarević & Knežević, 2008; Lazarević, Knežević, Mitić, & Đurić Jočić, 2018). Additionally, the LIRA  team has worked on the development and validation of novel tests of cognitive abilities (Živanović, 2019; Živanović, Bjekić, & Opačić, 2018a; Živanović, Bjekić, & Opačić, 2018b) and executive functions (Živanović, 2019; Purić & Pavlović, 2012; Purić, 2014).

In these studies, we have evaluated the structure of executive functions and their relationship with personality traits and deepened the knowledge on relationships between executive functions and other cognitive abilities (Živanović, 2019; Purić & Pavlović, 2012; Purić, 2014).

Additionally, our team has examined the possibility of reliably measuring individual differences in cognitive biases and the relationship of biases with other relevant cognitive variables (Pallier, Wilkinson, Danthiir, Kleitman, Knežević, Stankov, & Roberts, 2002; Teovanović, Knežević, & Stankov, 2015). Cognitive biases in memory have also been examined in clinical populations, as mechanisms of depressive cognition (Zupan, Žeželj, & Andjelković, 2017).

One line of research within LIRA focuses on investigating neural substrates of higher cognitive functions using non-invasive direct current neuromodulation (tDCS) (Živanović, 2019), as well as examining the effectiveness of this technique in improving human memory and prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (Bjekić, Čolić, Živanović, Milanović, & Filipović, 2019; Bjekić, Čolić, Živanović, Milanović, & Filipović, 2017; Bjekić, Vulić, Živanović, Vujičić, Ljubisavljević, & Filipović, 2019; Bjekić, Živanović, Vujičić, & Filipović, 2017). Further research of LIRA team members focused on examining the properties of cognitive mechanisms of attention (Zupan, Watson, & Blagrove, 2015), as well as the development of these mechanisms in childhood and their relationships with individual differences in executive functions (Zupan, Blagrove, & Watson, 2018).

In addition to the aforementioned lines of research, our team has been empirically investigating cognitive constructs of the psychology of individual differences such as creativity (Erić, Bjekić, Stojimirović, & Živanović, 2012) and giftedness (Altaras Dimitrijević, Teovanović, & Jovanović, 2012; Teovanović, 2012) as well as cognitive development (Perović, Vuksanović, Petrović, & Avramovic-Ilic, 2014; Purić, Vuksanović, & Chondrogianni, 2017; Vuksanovic & Bjekic, 2013).
